Judy Lee Schreiber
I grew up in St. Marys,Pennsylvania back in the Country, where it was beautiful farm Country, and we didn't have a whole lot of neighbors at that time. There was my Mom and Dad and 3 brothers and 2 sisters. We had fun swinging in the trees, playing ball every night with all of the neighboring kids.
We had family fun going fishing every Sunday, and after Church we had to do our farm chores.
Then my Mom would pack a lunch, and all of us kids in that old 1937 Chevy and Dad would be waiting in the car for us, blowing the horn for us to hurry. We would go fishing down at this creek that had a bridge across the water. Those were the good old days. How I wish they were here again. It would be nice, but I have my great memories of those wonderful years.
Of course back then. we thought we had it bad, but now I recall we lived off of the land, and had wonderful, clean and healthy food to eat. We always had plenty. We raised corn, cabbage, and everything else that we needed in the garden.
My Dad was very sick at the time and couldn't work. So the older boys done all of the hard work and of course I had to help with the farm work just like the older boys did.
We lived next door to our Grandma Schreiber and she had a farm and was still milking her cow at 86 years old. She was a tough old bird and she was still healthy after having 18 kids. Wow!
My Grandma and Grandpa Schutz lived on the other side of town and they would come to our house at least once a month. They lived a happy and full life. It seems like back then, people were friendlier and happier. That is when famlily's were family's. Not at all like our fast moving pace of today.
