Wireless Keyboard Repair
Top: Sony Wireless Keyboard
Bottom: Plastic Knife from Boston Market

This tutorial should work for all brands of WebTV/MSNTV® wireless keyboards.

If your keyboard problem is due to having spilled a liquid on it, please read this article.

This is meant to save you the $50.00 $20.00 it'll cost you to buy another keyboard because you just can't stand the sticking keys any longer. All you need are a few basic items.

They are:

  • Keyboard
  • Plastic Lever (Knife)
  • Round Toothpick
  • Armorall (or similar vinyl protectorant)
  • Patience
  • Perseverance

(HINT: Those last two are the most important. If you don't have a good supply of both, then go out and buy another keyboard NOW.)

Try Ebay, or some other auction site, or if you just gotta have it now, this is one site I have heard of... Here's another. If you know of others, please email me.

Still here? KO. The next step is to start removing the keys. Yeah. Just pop 'em off of there. Here's how...

Insert knife edge under space bar.

Pry up gently, but firmly, until the key goes flying through the air and lands behind an immovable Entertainment Center. Oops! No, that won't happen. It just kinda pops free. For most of the keys, I pried one side (left) first, and then the other.
It would pay you to have enough work area around you to place each removed key in the position of which you removed it. That will aid you in getting them back to where you removed them from.

On the longer keys (Spacebar, Shift, and Return keys) notice the paperclip type wire and how it is attached as you remove the key.(See photo below...)
